how long does shipping take?

i'll be travelling on the 6th of december, and i wanna order off the apple website the steelstratus xl controller. they say they ship it in 1 day but really? i don't wanna travel without it or if it came later they don't find me. so do they really ship within one day? if there were delays when did the product get delivered to you.
